Does anyone know if the windscreen has to be made of glass?

Obviously widsceen glass is designed to break into nice safe chunks and some plastics to break into dangerous shards (nothing like normal glass though) but i was thinking of something like polycarbonate as it can be shaped if you are careful. (stuff used in aircraft canopies and aeroscreens)

The only problem I can see is optical clarity limitting the amount of work you can do on it but making gental curves and integral side screens should be no problem and maybe a top lip to reduce turbulence.

You can get Elise side and rear windows from that stuff too

so no to polycarbonate also polyc tends to scratch very easily so much that the first time u used wipers they will scratch it to bug**ry.

it absolutely must be GLASS with the right kind of etched on markings.

you can buy a std screen quite cheap IIRC for about 40 quid from lolo or the like.

you can also get flat, marked glass cut to size for about 70 quid from autoglass windscreens.

was thinking about scratching. Oh well! Those screens on the Seven style car made in the USA and the Donkervoort are quite temping but probably very expensive!
