whats the best thing to use to remove gaffer tape/duct tape glue from fibreglass? I thought of using actetone (nail polish remover) but apparently its
an effective thinner for fibreglass 
its been on the body for quite a few years (since about 2004/05 i think), so the backing just peels away from the glue, so not sure a gentle heat
would help much. besides its only glue stuck to the body i've got left, all the backing has been pulled off.
any ideas? short of sanding and sanding until it comes off?
Acetone should be ok on fully cured GRP for awipe on application.
Had to do the same thing on my garage door recently.
I also use Acetone to wipe over the GRP when I am doing any gelcoat chips on the boat.
I'd use acetone (if thats what you've got!) aswell, and if you are still concerned, once you have removed the residue, then wipe the acetone
off again quickly!

you're right actually, wiping over it should be ok, i was just thinking because i soaked a paintbrush i used weeks ago for fibreglassing, and the
acetone softened it all up. of course, i won't be soaking it for a long time
I'll try it tomorrow. really need to get on with the fibreglass work, as i need to do LOADS of it
Start with the weakest solvents first - vinegar, white spirit, meths, surgical spirits, petrol etc
Now I've never tried this myself, though I know it was tested at work.

Organic glue remover.??
I had the same problem with some masking tape glue I left on!!
Nothing would fetch it off.
Tried petrol parrifin, meths alcohol swarfega.
Ended up just sraping it best I could, still some left, fortunatly its nowhere that shows
If you don't get anywhere with it, drop me a U2U, I have some stuff (no idea what it is) my uncle gave it to me, to do the exact same job.
I'm not overly keen sending it in the post, but I'll just pack it really well and send what I have left to you!
I used it and it didn't affect my gel coat at all.

just been out there with a blow heater and a sharpened wall paper scraper. does the job alright, but in half an hour, i've don about 5% of the
total job,
the weird thing is this stuff isn't sticky any more, its kind of hard and brittle.
it would need a good soak in acetone, no overly keen on that one.
Will ry the baby oil if i can find some (think i saw some baby oil gel around here somewhere, not sure if that would do the same job)
might try rubbing an orange over it... btw, Cheers Worx! I'll give a shout if i don't have much luck trying all these other ideas first.
the thing with the scraper is, its scraping off some of the paint on there, which is fine as the whole lot will get rubbed down and reprayed anyway. I
would just sand it with an electric/air sander but the paint will sand down easier than this glue, possibly leaving it all bumpy
WD40 will eat through most glues and not damage fibre glass.

Mykal make a home product called "sticky stuff remover" which is usable on upvc etc and does say on my container ok for plastic and paintwork (I'd alway's try it on a test area first though) www.mykal.co.uk they make loads of stuff for specialist removal of paint glue and graffiti..
Just removed the same from my car - panel wipe worked a treat. Half used tin so maybe not at full strength.
how come noone has suggested brake cleaner yet?
it's perhaps the best solvent i've ever come across. for the size of job you're looking at, i'd suggest a 5litre can rather than a
500ml spray, but you can get if from most good autofactors. i paid about £9 for my last 5litre tin.
i've used it on plenty of fiberglass bits and it's done no damage, probably because it evaporates so quickly.
i guarantee you'll use the rest of the can somewhere too.
