well I cut my screen into two separate screenlets (TM) so will need a much more sturdy mirror.
I have something like this in mind:
Only snag is they are at least £70.
Although thre is a cheaper and not so strudy looking one for £ 25
Now I should be a be to cut a triangular piece of steel and weld on a tube but the mirror housing presents a bit of a problem especially since the
mirror has to be adjustable (I already have one of those suction cup mirrors that I could use).
I should be able to make a housing and am thinking of using a motor as used in adjustable wing mirrors or just for simplicity a non adjuable wing
mirror mechanism.
Has anyone made something like this?
Comments?

I have one of the 25 quid ones from merlin motorsport, and it's more than beefy enough for what i needed. hope that helps.
oh and I looked for the hub drawings of the Old xtrail, but than japanese control and not accesible here. I do suspect thay may be very similar to
the new qashqai which I'm looking into
This is what I did...
LINKY
(piccy part-way down)
It's made from a metal plate, a bit of aluminium bar and an old Sierra mirror.
If you can find a decent Sierra mirror, turn it over and look at the back. You will see a ball joint with a peg sticking out. Cut the mirror off its
stalk, leaving as much peg as you can. Drill a suitable hole in your new mirror support, and glue the mirror peg into it (you might have to fettle
the peg a bit, as it won't be very round).
Job done, for under £5-worth of metal, paint, etc.!

P.S. Current version now has a triangular base plate, as the old one let the mirror vibrate a lot...

Im sure ive seen people mod the std sierra rear view mirror and add the triangular fixing plate so anything is possible.
Motor????? Are you arms too short to reach? Seriously i reckon this is a tad overkill and weight you can do without. Ive chucked my mirror - dont miss
it.
thanks for that^^^^
I was thinking of fixed shell and moveable mirror (hence the motors) but seems that a balljointed one will work.
I didn't think it would as the air will tend to deflect it but if the ball joint is central, then the forces will be equal so it should not
turn.

Mine sits between two 'Brooklands' fly-screens so gets the full force of the air passing by - doesn't move at all.
Here's a piccy I took this morning:

And just one more...
... you can see that quite a few flies have hit the back of the mirror with some force!

The second one looks like the one fitted to my car and is more than strong enough
