Tyre Gap / Wing Stays
RichardK - 26/8/07 at 04:55 PM

Just making my wing stays and am thinking what is the norm with regard to the space imbetween the mudguard and tyre.

Just thinking about stones getting picked up and damaging the edge of the cycle wing.

The space between the 4mm flat and tyre is 16mm so I suppose the inside of the wing is about 20mm.

Does these seem right, haven't wheeled the car out yet to see what they look like.

You comments please.

Cheers

Rich

Looks fine, but your stays will fatigue and break where the strip is welded to the flattened tube.

I got mine as close as possible on my Avon (less than 10mm) and never had a problem.

My Bitsablade ones are about 5mm and no problems yet 350 miles in.

IMHO, they look pants with a large air gap.

avoneer which wings are they?

Fluke motorsport - they're the only ones that fit 13" wheels properly.

That's for Carbon,

Change the drop down menu to black epoxy and they become a lot cheaper.

I used 1/2" hose pipe to get the gap uniform. Taped pipe to wheel and bent the bar onto it.
