Wide rear wings needed
FlansS14 - 22/10/07 at 09:10 AM

Morning all.

I've fitted 15*8 rims with a Zero offset on the back or my Luego but the std arches do not cover them, I was going to extend the arches by cutting and fibreglassing. but there are two curves and to be honest it would be easy and cheaper to sell the good ones i have and buy some wide ones.

I need some arches 38cm wide. Any ideas.

Thanks

Flan

Found myself in the same boat as you with my Velocity (see thread below)...

Clicky

Still haven't solved the issue and wasn't brave enough to cut my wings for a DIY jobby.

I have just bought a set of cycle wings froma guy on eBay who says he's going to start making rear wings too. You might want to drop him a line?...

eBay seller 'fgm3850'

I'm told that the original caterham wings are a little wider too but I bet they're mega bucks.

Let me know how you get on.

Don't DAX do extra wide rear arches?

Have a look at the robin hood rear wings . They appear to be just the outer wing bit and the main part some curved ally. should be easy enough to make to fit your application.

Cheers

Hi

Might be missing the point but is the wide (280mm) rear arch any good?? Just copied this info off the luego website.

A13 Front Wings (standard 180mm) pair
A14 Rear Wings (standard 215mm) pair
A15 Front Wings (wide 235mm) pair
A16 Rear Wings (wide 280mm) pair

Sorry if this is no help

Thanks for the imput Stu but saidly there not wide enough.

I've decided to make them wider myself after searching with no luck. I've got to Add 9cm extra so i've cut the wing in 2 (about an inch from the inner edge) then carefully wrapped and rivited a piece of ally round the outside.

Now all i have to go is wax up the alloy (to stop the grp bondin) and lay up a few layers off fiberglass on the inside. Ill put some pics up later. hopefully when i remove the alloy its just a case of skimming it with filler, prime and paint.

The total width is 38cm per arch... bit wide

Ok, they are wide.

I was thinking of running 13 x 7 on the rear. I have not done any measurements yet to see if the wide kit will cover the wheels.

Fingers crossed

Good luck with the fibreglassing !!

been looking around a bit for rear archs but i need insane width rears, i'm running 10J rears with 295/30 18 tyres on, been looking at hot rod and chopper/trike arches, they are about the only arches that come close to mine, or i may make my own from scratch.

front doesn't seem so bad, found some front cycle wings that i think will take the 255 front but i will get the tyres on the rims before i start looking properly.

cheap option is the plastic wings used in tipper cans/lorrys etc .

with a big v10 up front id say you could make your own out of steel and it wouldnt bother it .

your right, with v10 weight is not a problem, i've found some mudguards that will fit mine, don't know if they are any good for you, they are the ultra wide on this page :- http://www.crcustoms.co.uk/2.html

good find that! mine still needed to be a bit wider though. Ive cut the originals and made them wider. took a bit of filling after to get the shape but they look the part. ill post a pic up tomorrow.
