front wing fasteners

Well after much thought about whether to bond the wings to the stays or use fasteners I've decided on fasteners to keep with the approach of being able to easily dismantle the car should access or repair be required.

Now in everyones opinion what would be the best method of fastener to comply with SVA and also not be in your face from an asthetic point of view when used with black cycle wings.

I was wondering if those bedroom typre fasteners that you can push the plastic caps into the top to make less obvious are available with black caps but I've no idea what the fatener or caps proper name is so difficult to do an internet search.

Welcome all ideas on the subject so I can crack on and get them permenantly fitted prior to Christmas.

Cheers
Nigel

Socket button head screws with flange.

The flange should help avoid cracking the GRP and the button head gives a nice radius.

I use big rivets myself. pop a little black paint on them after to hide them

I used 6mm chrome coach bolts, pennies from local DIY store. Then painted them green later. See picture.

A second for coach bolts. always going to look better than having a 'proper' bolt head sticking out of the wing.

thanks fellas

With coach bolts I understand that the bit directly under the head is square. Did you simply dril a slightly smaller hole then file to make it square or did you file the square bit of the bolt round?

Also where did you source chrome coach bolts as I only seem to find normal steel ones that are zinc coated.

Thanks

Socket headed fasteners in stainless look nice IMO

Dome head socket caps witha washer for me. I drilled and tapped the wing stay rather than use a nut and washer on the other side - this allows you to get a closer fit to the tyre.

I tapped the wing supports then used some black aluminium socket button head bolts. These are the ones used fot motorcycle screens and I got them from VWP.

I tigersealed mine to the wing stays, much more secure as they are in contact through the entire length, rather than just two/four points per stay.
