connecting a coarse to a fine thread
jabbahutt - 4/3/08 at 02:16 PM

Afternoon all

need a solution to a problem. I'm trying to connect something with a coarse female thread to something with a fine male thread.

Basically I'm trying to use some shower hose to fit to the bottom of my headlights to run the cable in as I think it'll look tidy and be in keeping with the car having chrome wishbones etc.

I know trivial and unimportant but seeing I've spent so much time on the rest of the car I thought it would be worthwhile.

Any ideas much appreciated

Nigel

You will need some form of threaded adapter made up.

glue or sealant?

I don't suppose for any reason adaptors with a coarse thread at one end and a fine at the other are used for anything in plumbing etc as if they're available off the shelf it would be so much easier.

Cheers for the assistance.

Try dropping into your local hydraulic manufacturor...(or pirtek)sp? They have a fair few adapters..

But as its not a critical part I would be inclined to come up with a less costly and complex solution...

Plastic metal onto the female thread with a bit of cling-film or ptfe tape on the male thread to stop it sticking?
Cheers, Pewe

grind off most of the coarse thread, bit of loctite or epoxy ,screw it up and it'll never come out.

That's the kind of approach I'd take. It doesn't need to be a strong fixing, just not come apart.

1/2" BSP radiator bleed screw housing. (from plumbers, in brass or steel)

Remove the square headed pin and drill and tap the housing to suit the other thread.
