Should this be in this section or in the interior/trimmy bit??

Anyhoo! I've learnt many things over the years, to prevent me from having to spent my pennies paying someone else to do things that I must be able to do myself. After all, they have the same sort of hands as I have..........
However, sewing seems to be totally beyond my threshold of interest. In the past I have made patterns and cut material to make my own hood for my plastic cars but they looked rubbish and I soon got bored with hand stitching thick vinyl. That boredom caused the stitches to increase from millimeters, to inches.....and the result was a hood that was just waiting to fall to pieces!!

So, I have a hood that was the original one for my plastic car but it has ripped along the seams. Can you folks recommend someone to make me a new hood? I'm looking for someone who can take my old one and use it to make a pattern for a new one. As always, I'm working to a tight (ars3d) budget!

PS. I once sent the torn hood off one of my other plastic cars to a company who totally destroyed the hood I sent them and sent me a hood that was 3" too small in every direction!! That cost me £300 and that was when I was earning £50 a week! (Back in 1989)

Quality stuff.
Not cheap but when you consider how much time it takes to make a soft-top (he says from bitter unfinished experience....).

If you've got the old as a template then there's a good bit of saving in the cost.

With regards to trimmers, the following are always recommended:

I've seen stuff done at Trimmania and it's certainly excellent quality.

Can't personally comment on Softbits but the caterham guys appear to love them.

The boaty types are out of the equation! I have a boat and hang around the local marine supplies place so I get to know the guys there but the bod who does covers and stuff wanted £140 to stitch up a very basic cover for a 3'x4' box trailer!! He wanted £70 to do a wheel cover. The boaty sorts talk a different language to me. They talk in hundreds. It's good when I'm doin work for them......
I'll contact the two companies mentioned and see what happens.

There is a chap on the Tiger forum called Milsonwhittington who makes covers etc, it might be worth you giving him a call.
