have you thought about a bike engine ?

rusty - 14/6/07 at 07:42 PM

right got some questions for you

1 are the pins marked in any way

2 does the system have a dizzy if so does this have wires coming from it if so how many.

can you provide photos of all ignition items.

davrus - 14/6/07 at 07:54 PM

Here is a pic of the affending item!!

David Jenkins - 14/6/07 at 07:57 PM

Yep - that's the one I was thinking of.

Life would be soooo much easier if you find a plug...

RichieW - 14/6/07 at 08:26 PM

So are you gong to give it a go then dave?

I'd love to know how you get on.

I bought one of the other dizzys on the same auction, I dont have a running engine yet as its still on a stand. I 've taken a loads of notes and bunged them in the box that the dizzy came in.

Than John Emms thread made sense once I convinced myself that everyone agreed about the wiring pin order and people were just looking at the module from either the front or the back.

rusty - 14/6/07 at 08:39 PM

ok I see, well pins will be ignition live, earth and and switched -ve to coil -ve terminal. +ve coild terminat also to ignition live.

Look on the module for little sgins next to the pins.

davrus - 14/6/07 at 08:39 PM

Well dont look like i have a choise.
Will have to go for it and hope for the best.

Thanks for your help

Dave

davrus - 14/6/07 at 08:41 PM

no markins on pins at all as far as i can see!!

rusty - 14/6/07 at 08:44 PM

Well the earth will most likely have a connection to the case of the dizzy, what make is it. Looks like a bosch

RichieW - 14/6/07 at 08:48 PM

The way I read the other thread was if you look at the distribtor with black module beween the disributor and yourself the coil is on your left earth in the middle and live on the right

Using the picture you have posted with the dizzy on its side then its coil for the top pin earth in the middle, live is at the bottom

Thats how I'll be risking wiring mine anyway....

davrus - 14/6/07 at 09:02 PM

Ok so you think

1= coil +
2= earth
3=ign live

Am i correct?

RichieW - 14/6/07 at 09:09 PM

Yes thats exactly as I see it

chrisW peteff and john emms seem to agree.
John seemed to be looking at the dizzy with the module towards us and chrisw seemed to be looking with the module facing away so I reckon they all agreed.

davrus - 14/6/07 at 09:33 PM

ok so now the easy part, The coil wiring.

+ terminal = ignition live and No1 from module

- terminal = earth to chassis eg

Am i correct or not?

RichieW - 14/6/07 at 09:44 PM

Yes I think you are correct.
Thats exactly how the article from the locust club website has it.

http://www.locust.org.uk/knowlegebase/elec_ign/electronic%20ignition..htm

The bloke who wrote the article seems to have actually done the mod and knows what he is talking about unlike me

davrus - 14/6/07 at 10:16 PM

would you agree?

RichieW - 14/6/07 at 10:50 PM

Ive looked at the locust article and I've also dug out an article from classic ford magazine which details the same the job but with colour pictures. The classic ford article from feb 2005 has a bit entitled "wiring"

According to classic ford our (Middle pin "2" earth wire only goes to earth on the chassis. Not the negative side of the coil

Our geen wire (pin no 1) goes to negative side of the coil.

Pin number 3 liveblack goes to positive side of the coil which itself is connected to car live postive from the ignition

To quote verbatim from the magazine

Black: join to car live/positive wire(ours is tan yellow) - this needed double splicing so that it connects with the plug and then connects to the coil positive terminal

green- this is actually a shortened section of original valencia wiring but connects the plug to the negative side of the coil.

Brown- earth. we needed to extend this wire and fit a loop terminal to the end before bolting it to the bodywork.

Hope I haven't confused you too much

Ok so i think we are winning.

Does this look better

Cheers for all your help.

RichieW - 15/6/07 at 03:05 PM

yes that looks right. if you are interested in the article I could scan it and email it to you if you'd like to make sure. U2U me if you like with your email.

Its usually best to see stuff like this first hand

Cheers
