MX5 is the best British sports car built for 2 decades or more!!

It sounds like a proper car, handles well, is suprisingly practical and if you get the right spec goes reasonably too.

Nissan Silvia / 200's now they are hairdressers cars ... see all of above and reverse ......

donut - 9/4/05 at 10:00 AM

Awwww i love you guy's

Now that does sound gay!!

You know what i am going to say...

Its japanese designed (Eunos), which means it was designed to be refined (which it is). Its too quiet, too heavy and handles like a wet fish... Infact there were complaints when it came out that it was too quiet!

Now the Elise...thats a proper modern British sportscar... and they dont cost much more than an MX5....I know which i would rather have . Infact there were 2 guys where i worked in the summer, one had an Elise, the other an MX5. They took a race one day, and the Elise left the MX5 standing, straight line acceleration, and especially around corners (you dont need to slow down for roundabouts in an Elise...)

If i had the money then i would def buy an Elise over the MX5 but the car only cost me a couple grand and i got 400 beer tokens back when i sold the hard top so it's a bargain! £/fun ratio = WOW!

Don't forget that the 5 is a sports car like the old Mg's and Austin healy sprites of their day, good handling, spritly engine, comfy, easy to drive and cheap.

The Lotus is really a high level track/sports racer and is much better in design for drivability. For me the 2 cars are for different reasons and the 5 does a really good job of being what it was suposed to be, as does the Lotus.

plus hairdressers need a car just for them!! LOL LOL LOL

Spyderman - 9/4/05 at 02:53 PM

I've always liked the MX5 and I'm too big, fat and ugly to be a hairdresser!

I don't care what image people try to associate with cars I will drive what I like!
I owned a Fiat x1/9 (a hairdressers car) and never regretted it. Tremendous fun and fantastic handling. Pity about the pile of rust left wherever it was parked though!

Terry

ps. if ever you are in my neck of the woods I would love a drive in it!

Only if i can drive your Porsche!!

Bob C - 9/4/05 at 06:29 PM

I worried about the pansy image of the mx5, got round it by installing a 4.6l rover V8.
OK that's not why I put the V8 in.
Over the next couple of weeks 4 weber 44IDFs are going on, I'm expecting about 50 more horses (only 215 now). I also have the gearbox to fix - I tried to get a 0.63:1 5th in a cossie T5, doesn't quite work, the synchro's wrong, so that has to be fixed (0.63 is too high anyway - 0.75 ish would be much better).
I'll post a snap of the carb install if there's interest: I had to fabricate my own manifold to keep the height down.

MX5's are known as "Miatas" over here...(I believe it's Japanese for "Of course he's a hairdresser, look at the car he's in FFS!"..)

Saw one once with a twin turbo rotary out of a 3rd gen rx7 that was claimed to do low 10's

I like Miatas..Besides, Cars dont tell what side of a horse a man saddles,...his boyfriend does....

????

Go second hand and the Elise is something like 5 times the price of the MX5, at least here.

This is an excert from the MX5OC forum about Metrosexuals.......

"There was a discussion on our local radio station yesterday on 'Metrosexuals' and whether you can say you are one.. .

A Metrosexual a word being used at the moment to describe a straight man who is in touch with his more feminine side.
(e.g.) Is very clothes concsious, a smart dresser, having a refined taste in what he wears, loves designer hygiene products, eating out at good restaurants etc. and enjoys the company of women as friends and not nessacarily to chat them up. "

Is this me???????
