Evening all,
My ford focus 1.4 has started playing up. When the engine is up to temp it keeps stalling at idle. When its cold it doesn't do it. Ive also
noticed that the fuel consumption seems to have gone up!!. Ive had the mass airflow sensor out it, it appears to be ok in as much as the the two thiny
sensing elements are in tacked.
Any ideas anybody?
cheers

egr valve stuck open
answers dont get much faster than that
Thanks for super quick reply froggy, is that a common fault then? My exhaust mainifold has a slight blow in it, could this be part of the problem as well ?
Have this on my vectra, its the idle control valve, have to clean it every few months with carb cleaner

Could be a engine temp sensor telling the ecu that its cold and over fuelling(like choke) this then floods the engine at idle and also ups the fuel consumption all round. Is there a strong smell of petrol when it's idling/stalling?
answered your own question there , if youve got a leak pre cat your os will get a lean signal and over fuel hence the cutting out and fuel
consumption iscv will usually give poor idle and cutting out without the fuel supping airflow meter faults are hard to test and are usually suspect
by reputation passat/golf tdi is a good example, sort your blow out and get it on a gas analyser to see whats going on
