I've heard that the different pinto engines have dipsticks of different lengths. I've posted a 'Wanted' add for a replacement for
my 1800 SOHC and would be interested to know what the different lengths are ?
Anyone up for measuring theirs and posting the results here?
the full length.
i believe the top level of the oil in the sump remains the same but the volume is maintained by the but on the side. my 2.1 SOHC has a normal one.
but i could be wrong and stand to be corrected

If the above is correct, you will need the to measure the length of the tube as well as the dipstic length, since ford may have changed this depending on clearance requirments for injection/noninjection etc etc...
Why dont you drain the oil out and refill withe correct amount then mark the dipstick to show the new level.
I asked my wife this question; her reply was "About 5' 9"!).
Is she trying to tell me something?
I'm going to have to remove the sump to get the broken dipstick out, it snapped off right at the top of the tube.
Seeing as the tube on mine hasn't changed it shouldn't matter about the length of the dipstik?
The two dimensions that would be of interest are the overall length and the length from the bottom to some aspect that determines how far into the
tube it is allowed to go.
pull the whole tube out of the block, much easier than dropping the sump. Knock the dipstick out and loctite the tube back into the block again
I wonder who started this rumor
Bluemoon is cock on. The injection engines have a longer tube to clear the inlet manifold so the dipstick has to be longer to keep the oil level the
same.
My dipstick measures 468mm from the tip of the dipstick to the top of the white plastic stopper.
I tried to pull the tube out but couldn't.
The sump gasket needed replacing anyway due to a leak...
Anyone else up fo measuring theirs?
Anyone got a spare one ???
Thanks
