OT...Cambelt on a VAG 1.6 16v

I may have to do a cambelt on a VW polo (year 2000) GTI 1.6 16v in the next week or so...

Haynes dont do a manual for it because its an obscure limited edition so im not really sure how to do it....

Im guessing the layout will be much the same as the polo 1.4 16V engine...But i would imagine the torques etc are all different...

Has anyone done a vw 1.6 16V cambelt?

Is it as complicated as it looks?...the pinto cambelt was a piece of piss...the VW one doesnt look so easy!

Should look like this!

Less than a 2 hour job acording to technical data

I believe these engines have suffered problems with early failure of the belt tensioner (link belt & main), i would advise replacing the tensioners at the same time.

Yes, the plan was to do the tensioners, belts and watermpump at the same time....

I imagine the job would be one hell of a lot easier with the right tools...

Is there anywhere cheap that I can get the VW specific locking tools for the camshafts etc?

Its just going to be fiddly going in through the wheel arch..
