Modding wiper arms

I just want to tell people that this is possible for normal people to do. I am so CHUFFED it's unbelievable! (And if you knew how weird it is for me to say that word whose meaning I didn't know 1 year ago...)

Procedure as follows (no pics sorry):

Figure out how long they have to be to fit your windshield.
Cut end off arm to length required. Keep the little tit that goes into the blade.
Drill holes where spring and rivet go.
Take old arm out of the base, by removing the spring, and drilling out the round headed rivet.
Put the new one in, attach the spring, rivet in place, paint.
Attach blade (which I got for 4 pounds a pair at Detling from GBS).

Can't believe I've done this actually. After so many things going wrong with my build, this was done in one evening.

Well done - I will be putting wipers on my car (after I've fitted a windscreen - after I've fitted a scuttle - after I've fitted the rest of the body - after - after...

All you need to be able to do now as a 'normal person' is to take some photos - so we can all see what you are talking about.

A picture paints a thousand words, don't you know?

I know EXACTLY what you mean by the 'normal person' remark, though - I have just made the same quantum mental leap myself - and done my first bit of welding!

Steve, I hate to say it, but the weld on the right doesn't look much good to me either, looks like not enough gas and very little penetration.

As Ben has said do a load of test welds and give them a good bashing.

Yes, mine look like iscmatt's, except I didn't keep the bend. Mine are straight, and will be painted flat black after priming. They will also mount a little closer to the screen itself (different scuttle).

Well, as I said, his is the same as mine, but obviously looks better, and would be better photographed. I like to leave as much to professionals as possible. Occasionally, as in building this car, I forget this...
