Help

I bought my car as a part built with a box of bits. Over the months I've come to realise that not all the bits in the box actually belong to the build. Latest issue is bonnet & nosecone.
The bonnet I have measures 93cm from front to rear, it is low so I presume for a crossflow setup Now in my box of bits was a pinto and plans are to stick with that for now. BUT ( there's always one ) the engine is too tall............ No problem fit a bulge or buy a bonnet with a bulge BUT ( sometimes 2 ) the camshaft pully sits exactly on the join between bonnet and nosecone ie at 93cm from scuttle. This means that I would need to fit a bulge in the nosecone too if only to match the one in the bonnet and the bonnets I've seen with a bulge seem to have the bulge further back from the front edge ie Tritons roadster bonnet.

What I need to know off any of you pinto powered guys is :-

1... Does your engine sit about the same distance from the scuttle. I cant move mine back any coz of clutch bulge hitting chassis.

2... What is the height of your bonnet at the rear and at the front. My scuttle and hence bonnet rear sits 25.5cm above chassis rails and I need 25cm at the front to clear the cam pullly and thats without a cam belt cover on.

Any suggetsions apart from fit a bike engine are welcome

Thanks RD

I've got Luego bodywork on my Stuart Taylor (much the same as the book chassis). It is taller in the scuttle, bonnet and nosecone.... Might be an option worth looking into!

Fit a Bike engine.

What, just cos it's not welcome, doesn't mean it isn't correct!

In all seriousness, there is absolutely no reason that you can't fit a bonnet bulge on the bonnet, but that it also overlaps the nosecone slightly.
I think someones already done it once, I was going to do it with my scratch built a million years ago, but sold it.

Can you increase the height of the scuttle, nose and bonnet by rivetting on some 1" angled aluminium (I am SUCH a nice guy, even spelling that word incorrectly, just for you!!)? This would give you your height without the $$$ new Luego bodywork.

OR, just do what SH suggests and cut a bit out of your bonnet lip. His other suggestion is just silly. Then again, the weight savings alone... sorry losing my train of thought.

I am not an expert, just throwing ideas around. I have had to improvise a lot, and tend to lose it occasionally - only a couple of times a week for 2 1/2 years.

Take pics, link them to here, and somebody will be able to find a way around what you seemingly can't do.

What about make yourself a bulge a bit like the tigers? Ie starting on the nosecone then ending on the bonnet?
