Bonnet - Change of plan - Paint

Ok, due to the lack of room in the garage (despite a new garage door), my original plan to make a fibreglass front end is out the window and i have decided to make a metal frame from 10X10x1mm strips of steel and 1mm steel sheet over the top.

Has anyone built a bonnet like this and maybe has some advice?

Also, has anyone painted their car when it is built up rather than each panel individually?

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Paint it as the last job, its a locost not a kit so thing will be fitted on and of all the time and things get marked.

1 mm steel? most peeps use 1.5 mm to 2 mm aluminium - that is gonna wiegh a fair but; assuming you are building a 7 type car.

I may still use ali but i need to plan it a bit better to make sure i can get the bends right.

Its a sevenish chassis and the back end will silghtly resemble a seven but the front is a whole new design.
