Screen Options
Tagged a bit to an existing thread but I think it's probably died off, so I'll try a new one.
Anyone got any good info on a DIY aero-type screen. I want to fit one to my +442 but not sure which is the best way to go?

Good luck finding something for a +442! I've got a GTS W7DE with the same chassis, and spent 6 weeks solid looking for an aeroscreen to fit.
A lot of people just fit a windscreen, but dependant on whether you're pre or post-IVA then it will have an impact. If your car's already
on the road, then fitting a screen is simple; just bolt it on. But if you've yet to put it through the test then you'll also need wipers,
washer jets, associated pumps and mechanisms, plus a way of demisting the inside of the windscreen (heater).
I ended up biting the bullet ang getting two individual aeroscreens from Caterham direct (bout £70 each, iirc), as I couldn't find anything else
to fit.
I suppose you could always use a windscreen type template and build an acrylic/perspex style shortened version, giving you the aeroscreen look and
retaining the original windscreen mounts?

Not on the road yet, I intend to go with an aero to start with and see how I get on with that once it's on the road. I may fit a screen later if
I decide it's too noisy/windy (or SWMBO makes the decision for me  )
I wonder if it's possible to use a standard aero and widen it myself using GRP?

You could try, depending on which aeroscreen you look at.
From memory the Mac1 aeroscreen is quite square-ish and could probably be extended, but items such as the black gloss double bubble aeroscreen found
on eBay are designed to flex around the scuttle depending on car it's fitted to, and I'm not sure if its' rigidity will survive the
added flexibility through cutting and extending.

Looks very 'do-able'. I've got a windscreen and supports (think the supports are MK or similar, I'll try and gety a piccy up
on here tonight). The screen is too wide (for a +442  ) and dead flat along the bottom too so not sure if I could fit it even if I wanted too.
The supports might be a bit too high though, Mr IVA might not like them as they are somewhat 'projecting'
Worth a go though methinks

If IVA is an issue don't put any screen on until afterwards, then you avoid the "is it OK or not?" questions

My car is 4" wider I cut some 4-5 mm perspex to sesired shape and used a hot air gun to make it pliable to form the ends, mounted it with a
couple of alluminium brackets. no problems at all with it.
If you do buy one you be carefull of the smoked type as they can be difficult to see through if your say low down

I've heard that heat can make the perspex craze and my luck dictates I will manage to do that if it will . Will a hairdrier on max do the job
as I do not have a hot air gun?
