making a scuttle
hi all, i have just bought a half complete locost, i think it's book dimensions but i don't yet have the book.
the scuttle and side panel beneath the scuttle are all 1-piece (basically if you peeled it off to the side of the car it would stand up like a big
capital I) i don't much like it at the moment. i want a single piece running from the front suspension to the rear wings, and then put a
seperate piece scuttle on the top.
my question is basically, is it difficult to make a scuttle from medium alu sheet with a few tools and a bit of initiative?
many thanks

Easier and cheaper to buy one, if you want you could skin it in alloy.

Made mine from 1" bent round tube skinned over with ali.
The bending of the ali was a bugger as I rushed it and tried to do it all in one go, so as I bent the ali round the sides it bowed on the top so
unfortunately had to pop rivet it on the back edge hopefully these wont be seen when the dash trim goes on.
If I was doing it again I'd PU the top let it set then clamp it and bend it round the following day.
Cheers,
Bob

cheers. just reading about that sikaflex stuff - would it be possible to just use that instead of rivets etc - is it strong enough? that way i get
sealing and fixing all in one. it's available thru MK, is that right?
a scuttle looks like costing around £120 to buy, i only have £730 for everything that's left, and everytime i look there seems to be more that
needs doing!
edit: opps, just looked at gtstuning, £78 for scuttle is much more reasonable. and the wings look very good too esp for the money. and the bonnet...ah
crap, only a few days in, i already think i am going to go over budget!

Best to make the bonnet its easy and every car and engine combination is slightly different..
For cheap wings try this guy http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=43117&item=24741481

that's true. i have a bonnet already but it's not great but it's ok, just sheet al - maybe i will wait until i decide on the
downdraught carb (already on and set up) or a sidedraught if i can get the bits cheap enough before i make a decision on the bonnet. even if i make
it, guess it's going to be much easier than making wings.
btw trident, link expired unless my comp is unhappy (it does seem to have a prob with ebay unfortunately - means i actually have to work )
