Removing polish etc before painting?
My scuttle now has more holes than I need. Once I've filled the holes I'll need to paint over - I plan to see if I can just paint the
filled bits with my airbrush as I have a small quantity of the original cellulose paint and blend it in (if it doesn't work or looks blotchy
then I'll just rub it down and spray the whole lot).
Trouble is the scuttle has been polished in the past, including that Mer stuff. I'd guess that I need to get this off before spraying
over...
So - is there some magic fluid for getting old polishes off?

Not tried it but I would have thought carb cleaner would do a good job - failing that brake fluid or nitromors!? Edit to add: I'm an idiot and
often do stupid things. Following my advice may kill your scuttle!
A bird in the hand....

I don't want to remove the existing paint! (apart from a small area around the filled hole).
I only want to remove the assorted polishes so that the new paint can stick properly to the old stuff.

fletting the paint will remove the polish you will have to flat around the area fill the hole then paint and then buff back to a shine
Life is like a bowl of fruit, funny how all the weird looking ones are left alone

Compound it all over then go over with panel wipe a couple of times should be OK.
