Price for fitting tyres and balancing

Im was doing some ground work so I dont get a nasty shock when I get some tyres from camskills later this year \ next year.

I went to my local freindly tyre fitter who wanted £12.50 per corner!!!

I thought this was alot. He will fit balance and rid my old tyre for me.

Does this seem about right?

I live near dartford, kent. Anybody recommend a close place?

I travel around the south east of england with work so have free diesel. What about recomendations in the south east?

Thanks for the advice.

Waaaay too much. Take it to a local 'independent' and ask for the cash price if you leave them with them. Never paid more than £20 for fitting and balancing.

Most "back street" places will do 'em cheap if you leave the wheels there for them to do at a quiet time...

Yeah I usually pay a fiver a corner but they often don't have to dispose of the old tyres.

As said you've got to pick your place carefully.

If they are doing it for beer money then it isn't going through the books and the company will be losing money at £2.50 a corner if they are supplying new valves and paying disposal on old tyres...

Other things to remember include finding one that puts the red/yellow dots in the right place relative to the valve (amazing how many don't) and ensure they use the correct type of weights for your alloys (too many hammer on a clip on weight damaging the lacquer).

a set of four with valves, fitted and ballanced = £10 - £25max
(£25 would have to include disposal of the old ones)

I got my tires to my friendly mechanic whom i have already paid 1K last year for servicing the tin top to fit them and charged me £5 each and disposal of the old ones.

I will update next week when i fit my new ones.

Have a go at doing it yourself then see how much you think it's worth . The machine to do the job is not cheap at £2,500 and it needs a compressor that probably cost £1000 to power it plus the rent or rates on the premises and a dynamic balancer at least another £1000 and £1 each disposal for the old tyres plus his time which is probably more valuable to him replacing his own tyres than some you got cheap off t'internet etc. He was probably glad to see you walk away

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

i was going to post up about this yesterday. Just bought some Proxes from camskill and arrived the other day. swung in to the local "vauxhall Independant" on the way home yesterday (suited & booted) and asked how much he would charge for disposal and new fitting + balancing. After thinking for about 5-10 seconds (and not making eye contact with me) he blurted out £20 a corner!!!!!!!

I burst out laughing and said " im surprised your still in business" and walked out, unbelievable!

then went to the garage where i got my immobiliser done a couple of weeks back and saw the same girl that was in there.

said hello with all the usual banter and chit chat (& flirting, trust me it works on the more mature assistants, lol) said the car was running great and got it all in , disposal, valves & balancing for £20 all in and a pack of Jam donuts for the guys in the shop!

took the wheels down yesterday and im picking them up this afternoon!

just goes to show there are some nice "freindly" garages out there

I love Pinto's, even if i did get mine from P&O!

Time = money
Equipment = money
Facilities = money
Disposal of waste = money
Skill & experience = money

Pay peanuts get monkeys -- proper wheel balancing requires more knowledge than just knowing where the start button of the balancing machine is.

Cheers for the info peps.

This place was a 'local back street place'

Maybe ill try another.

The thing is that becasue I have had a company car for soo long I have no ties with any garage so everywhere I go im just another person.

Maybe ill try beer and nibbles. Although they may not eat them with black brake dusted hands!!
