Aries / STM bonnet

The GRP bonnet doesnt quite fit the curves of the nosecone and scuttle and the right angle returns on the front and rear of the bonnet make it very stiff. Would I be okay to dremmel them off and just use foam strip to pad it up to the correct level? How have other people done it?

That should hopefully make some sense to Aries / STM builders!

Yes you could do this. Although I just measured the thickness of the ressess in the nosecone and scuttle and sanded the bonnet (with a dremel drum attachment) to suit....

Thats what I've been doing but the bonnet is so stiff it wont really bend to the contours of the nosecone and scuttle. I might have one last fiddle tomorrow, if i cant make it work i'll just take the lot off

The fibreglass will get very soft when you get the engine running!!
Usual trick is to get engine nice and toasty, put the bonnet over the top and put some ratchet straps around the bonnet to hold it in place. Keep the engine running for a while to soft the fibreglass then switch off the engine and let it cool.
At STM they used to do a similar trick with a hot air gun and some gentle bending but I prefer the first option (must easier)....
