Half door windows
I finally got to use the car yesterday and today for a quick run out... first time in about 2 months!
I have been busy in the mean time, though. I have ali half doors covered in roofing vinyl, which are great for cutting down spray and providing an
armrest but, even with lexan wind deflectors, it gets a bit breezy in the cold weather.
I got hold of some old Westfield doors which would not completely fill the "door" space and I decided I didn't want to lose the
usefulness of having the half doors for summer, so I adapted the Westie doors.
First pic shows old setup, with half doors and wind deflectors. Westie doors were cut down and the vinyls trimeed and sewn with my trusty Singer. The
bottom of the flap has some bits of 6mm steel bar sewn in to keep them in place sitting over the edge of the doors. This means the door and window
parts open separately (a bit like I have seen on some Cobras)
At some point the doors had been extended by someone, adding a bit of extra height with added vinyl. For my car, the front part of the extension
catches the edge of the half hood, so I cut it off and restitched it, but left the rest as it adds some useful wind protection.
Not shown, but I also let in some extra material to the sides of the hood so they now overlap the top of the windows, since there was a gap between
the top of the doors and the side of the hood. I also reduced the width of the half doors by about an inch so the whole door+window combination comes
further in towards the hood.
Windows stay in place on the door with a simple catch - piece of 3mm ali held on with a bolt.
I went out this morning and they certainly do the job... the only minor issue is that the top of the windows are below my eye height so I have to duck
down a little to check at junctions, etc. Oh well...
Happy driving

That's a cracking idea. Never thought of having seperate window and door combination. Then again i'm still trying to get my half doors
sorted out, never mind windows.

That looks a neat idea. We're finding the Dutton a bit chilly and considering doing something along these lines. How have you held the lower
door in, looks like one bracket on the inside?
