Viper stripe

I quite like the idea of a wide black stripe down the middle of my yellow seven (middle of bonnet, accross scuttle then down rear panel). Question is whether to buy some self adhesive vinyl or spray the stripe on. Anyone done this ? What sort of costs / time were involved. ?

thanks

tia a tricky one!!

spray and its there for good!! vinyl is a sod!

look at my photos, i did a 2 cobra stripes in silver vinyl with 2mm black pinstripe. they are 3 / 4 inch wide (cant remember exactly) but much wider and i think you may have problems, the vinly doesnt like compound curves (in 2 directions, ie. nose cone) and i reckon a wide stripe will be difficult as is will ruck up,

mine cost bout £25 from locak sign shop (demon tweeks charge £60+ for the same and without the pinstripe!) if that doesnt work then paint...

all the best

bob

Your best bet is to get a sign shop to cut you some vinyl stripes and put them onto transfer tape. you use a spray of water on the sticky side and work the air out . Any water thats left gets out through the vinyl over time. If you get fed up with it you can peel it off provided you used a quality premium vinyl to start of with. The goo that left can be removed with wd 40 of the sign guy will have the proper stuff.

Cost usually a min cutting fee of 35 to forty bucks or beer tokens for the backroom boy

there is vinyls that go on in three dimentions
Its down to the skill of the person applying it.
The other half does this sort stuff so I know what can happen .... Cheap crap vinyl is a sure way to a f*** job. There is a product that the wrap the whole taxi in vinyl and apply the sponsers signs on that. When the ad campain changes the whole lot is removed and a new colour added.
I have yellow panels on my seven and plan to wrap the exposed parts in vinyl to protect them.

That well Known russian car maker based in Blackpool uses this on its cars (TVZAR)

WK mag had a large vinyl stripe on their Avon build. IIRC they went to a sign writer who specialised in this sort of thing for vans etc, and got him to do it.

Dunno about cost though

getting stripes sorted has gotta be the easiest thing to do on a locost!

I think you can by 'go faster stripes' on a roll at motor factors (like halfords?)

been ages since I bought any - last time was 15 years ago for my wife's maestro..

It was only 3 years old at the time.

After we sold it, it was still running around our area for 10+ years, and it didnt rust much. Stripes lasted too!

It wasnt a bad car..... lotsa room, just yer typical family box in other respects tho

a mate of mine had one of them ad both...............yes both the front suspension turrets failed at the same time doe to excess ive rusting.

More worryingly the car passed its mot 3 weeks beforehand A few calls to the DOT and they were inspected and were found to have issued 75 MOTS on one day! seeing as its a small garage with about 3 employees and one 4 post lift it didnt seem to fir. Needless to say within a few days the blue and white MOT testing station sign was removed

I had a look today reckon that a 4 inch wide black stripe would look good. The local sign / vehicle wrapping people are coming back to me with a price. However having seen Bob's silver vinyl stripes I may go for two thinner ones.

pictures to follow once all is complete.

thanks
