basecoat paint?
neighbour has asked if id like to paint his bike tank for him. Its a cb200 for those who like to know.
The same colour, or as near as possible. Called nu-again (hugs paint on ebay) to see if its available in cellulose as I want to avoid the isocyanates
in 2k.he gave a few options of colours, and my neighbour is going with the one below
Hes recommended 'basecoat' like this
1L Hulk Green Pearl Basecoat Car Paint
It says to use 2k thinners, but no mention of activators or anything, so does this give off the same guff as 2k paints, or just solvents like
cellulose?
He said it needs a laquer too, and can be 2k or cellulose

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

That would make some sense, but some listings say it dries matt, and if gloss is required, then laquer it?
You also wouldnt want wet paint under the laquer, but I do know what you mean

Some paints actually require the base to still be tacky when clear coating over. Obviously product dependant but the isocyanates are usually in the
hardener. So to avoid them you will need to use a 1k clearcoat. Just to note 1k clearcoat is not as durable as a 2k but for a diy job with no airfed
mask you don't really have an option.

basecoat uses the same thinners as 2k. None of that sort of stuff (even celly) is nice.
Will need a clearcoat over.

I know thinners arent nice, but as long as the isocyanates arent there, thats a big tick in the box.
Why specifically 2k thinners though, I wonder?
Im looking forward to grtting this job done
