best carpet/fabric

Hi, wondered if anyone new of a light weight material that can be used to line the interior of the car. I prefere to have it lined than bear metal even if it's alloy but would want it as light as possible not bothered about insulations.
Regards
Alain

Personally I'm planning to just cover them with vinyl, no padding at all as it would probably absorb water.

Should be light enough.

when at MK engineering this weekend i was talking to a guy who is build ing a Locost and he is using Courderouy to line this Interior/Cockpit area! I dont know how light this is but may be worth thinking about as its very hard wearing!

How very seventies

Seriously won't corduroy absorb water and add to the weight.

PLease correct me if I've got the wrong end of the stick, as I' have terrible visions

Take care Dan.

I saw some of that industrial carpet stuff for sale the other day which is more like the carpet that doormats are made out of. The nasty stuff they use in offices, horrible to walk on but grippy.

It did have a ribbed appearance that I might have said looked like corduroy. I thought it might make a good interior lining and asked the guy about it, it's bonded to rubber on the back and has very coarse short fibres on the surface, its thin but quite stiff and sheds liquid well.

But

I then saw an old MG being refurbished at my local engineering firm and they were using some nice vinyl coated board which came from the marine refitting industry and was perfect for this application.

I shall find out more details when I go down there tommorrow for my exhaust studs.

Cheers

Dave

Not for the floor obviously (rubber matting?) but the Plastic Tank man does interior trim kits - very smart and light as a feather, and he'll do them from a pattern to fit your car - sides, tunnel, back panel , dash etc.

Cheers

Chris

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

Is there no end to PTM talents

That said Chris's work is to a very high standard, maybe worth contacting the man.

All the best Dan.
