Lexan Screen

I'm pretty chuffed with the new screen i've made with some lexan and I'm wondering what others think of this design rather than the usual Lotusesque glass screen or even the aero screens that seem so popular here. Lexan is easily bent using a sheet metal brake and it is very light weight. i have made the height low enough that you actually look over the screen but the angle (45degrees) means that the air flow goes over your head at speed. I can drive at a steady 70 mph and not loose my hat.

Nice clean job - what thickness sheet did you use and did you use any heat on the bend?...

Very nice. On a loosley related subject, could you use the same idea with a full screen?

Hi Neil
No heat needed at all and I used 6mm sheet It does flex a little but that is no biggie Lexan can be machined with a wood working router which is what i used for the top edge however it is better to do the edges before folding I chamfered the bottom edges with a linishing belt attachment on the bench grinder.

If you wanted to use it for a Full screen you would have to be prepared for the fact that you can't use wipers (it would scratch the screen ) but there is no practical reason that You could not make a higher screen from lexan

According to the sales blurb Lexan is supposed to be more scratch resistant than glass.

Tell them about the bent treacle edges!

I personally doubt that but as I live in "sunny Queensland" Australia I don't expect to be driving in the rain that much and I will instead apply some "rainex" to the screen.

I used lexan for my side screens and it scratches very easily.
