Cost of Ali / What should i be asking for
Just popped into metal supermarket to get a couple of foot of steel,. Asked for the following quote.
8'x4' half hard ali sheet for a car body side.
Almost fell over when told 58 pounds something + VAT.
Is this about right?
Should i be specifically asking for T2040 ooji-ma-flip something or other in case he's accidentally quoted me for unobtainium ali.

You can do it quickly. You can do it cheap. You can do it right. – Pick any two.

0.8mm stuff that size cost me £15 in Aberdeen, more than thick enough for the sides
What’s all technical jargon? If I told them that they'd look at me like I'm from outer space
It's just aluminium sheet, the cheap stuff no of this fancy high grade nonsense it's not an aeroplane

As already mentioned, £58 + vat is almost laughable.
I paid less than £30 for my 1.2mm and than included the VAT.

Hi
just placed an order with Parker Steel in Canterbury.
8x4 sheet 1.2mm half hard
£32 a sheet plus VAT.
Thought that was bad enough.
£58 plus... think not

Find a local fabrication shop and see if they can supply it.I used a local company they bought it in for me and were still cheaper than i was quoted
by local metal suppliers. I used 2m x 1m sheets rather than 8 x 4 sheets.
