Anyone mounted their rear fenders further back?

Hey guys,
In my quest for better geometry, Ive ended up with my lower trailing arms approx 2.5" (65mm) longer than a book car. My rear axle is also 2.5" further back.
I am wondering a couple things.
First, I dont think any rear arches are going to cover the bolt head. Meaning I will be stuck with a giant bolt head sticking out the side of the car.
And second, is moving the arches back going to look goofy? These cars are already pretty long looking in the cockpit area. Im worried it's going to make that worse.

Anyhow, if someone has some pics, or some suggestions please speak up.
I get the feeling I am going to be making my own rear arches either way. I was wondering if a brake cooling vent would look good to hide the bolt.

Cheers,
Cory

Are you certain that this 'better geometry' is going to be worth the problems that it is causing. I don't remember hearing anyone else complaining about the trailing arms being too short as standard.

You will have to lengthen the boot area or reduce the radius of the rear panel curves or the back of the arches will overlap the start of the curve and leave a gap...

I made my rear arches. They're smaller than most and mounted closer to the tyres - look better with 13 inch wheels in my opinion. They're more like the original Mk1 Seven, rounded in section, and yes I have a big exposed bolt for the top of the coil over, but it's completely hidded by the tonneau cover.

I seem to recall that F27's had realllly long trailing arms, that were mounted in front of the rear arches. It kept the axle in the same place but achieved the same thing as you are trying.

Have a look though the photo archive's for any F27 owners.

Thanks for the input guys.
The F27 (first time Ive seen them btw) do not have bolts showing, but the rear end axles look to be fairly far back. Looks like there is potential for it to look good.

I only have the lower links to cover as I've gone to a 3-link+panhard instead of 4+panhard. To get the traction I need and still no bind the 4link just wasn't going to work. Im starting out with 240hp,275ft/lbs and will likely end up with another 50hp and 30ft/lbs. Getting that to the ground will be difficult even with a 3link (fun though).

Thanks again guys.
Cory
