joining two half's of a fibreglass structure hows it done
Hi all,
I have been reading a number of web sights about glider building where the body is made in fibre glass like in the link below

my question is how do that stick the two half together? as there is not enufgh room for some one to go inside to lay up over the join

They probably used a good adhesive. Look at the main body and you see the end piece glues on so they can get into the ends. There are also flat
pieces across the width of the tail so the adhesive bonds all the way round, not the edges. You'd have to be more confident than me to try that
though.

Align the two pieces, and layup over the join - just try to scarf the joint to avoid a massive step....
More info about the structure you are joining would be helpful.....

Big difference between bonding together to freshly made GRP sections and repairing body parts that have fully cured. With new parts you get a much
stronger bond.
Polyester resin dosen't fully cure for months after it comes from the mold --- from experience new boat hull sections have to carefully
supported to avoid distortion, only after about two years are they considered fully cured..

they will still have both halfs in the mold and the two halfs bolt together using flanges on the moulds. There will always be somewhere to get in like
the canopy area and there will be enough room to firstly pour resin down the join and the lay some glass tape over the resin/join. I have some model
gliders here which are built in the same way and they only have a fuse thats 3/4 inch dia!
