mod bonnet or start again with ally?
costly to make a new one, and I'm not up to the task. Can this be salvaged? Existing bonnet is MK 34" long.

im no expert in fibreglass but i reckon thats way to far out to be slavaged.
I dont think its that costly to make one, its only the cost of one sheet of ally

Actually, I meant I'm not up to the task of making a new one. I have had a hard enough time getting the right kind of aluminum to my house.
I've yet to do a decent job on anything to date, and a custom made one is almost $2000 when travel and labour is considered. I would need to
take the car to Montreal and back.

Have a go with the aluminium, it's got to be the best option at this stage.
It's not as difficult as you might think. I think the approach I would take would be to cut the ally oversize havinmg used some template
material to get the right size and shape, then mark the centres of the curves and just bend it by hand, offer it up, bend it some more if required.
Then trim to fit.

I started with similar to that, and have modified it with fibre glass, its almost finished now, but its taken ages, and i was pretty much a novice at
it when i started, but i feel i could tackle almost anything now. I didnt do it to save costs but i wanted a one piece bonnet, must admit if i could
have bought one, looking back i should have!

I would love to just buy parts and fit them, but nothing would fit properly, because my chassis is a bastardisation of an MK (an inch higher all
round). So it looks like more money down the drain...

So how much would a suitably sized piece of 1.5 aluminium cost in Canada, then?

Delivered? 90 pounds your money. The problem is I have to be here during business hours, and I am trying to keep a business alive at the moment and
don't want to miss.
Although you have given me an idea: rent a pickup and go at noon to pick it up and just take it home after work and then return the truck. By jove, we
may be onto something, Watson!!

If only it could stay in paper...
