Easy IVA question
Im using the rear light cluster from the donor car which have a reversing light.
Would it be an IVA fail if the light doesnt work?
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Now that is a good question...
I would suggest that if its fitted it has to work (as per MOT)....
Wiring the reverse light up is not going to be dificult.... might be useful at some point?

Would the last person who leaves the country please switch off the lights and close the door!

yes.
from draft IVA.
min 1 lamp, max 2. must be operational, colour white.
... or are you saying you will have a separate reverse lamp and not use the ones in the cluster? please clarify.

not quite. my old e30 BMW had reversing lights, switch in the gearbox, all wiring prestent, bulbs were fine, but never worked. never failed an MOT on
it. so they don't have to work if fitted for MOT
reversing lights are a MUST for IVA. you have to have one (or 2) and they have to work

For IVA you have to have a reverse light (and reverse).
Reverse lights are not an MOT tested item.

its a bit obvious that if it is fitted it needs to work and as said reverse light is required for iva.
it cant be that much of a job to wire it up

"5. They must operate by selection of reverse gear, or be fitted with a telltale warning device."
you can just do it with a switch on the dashboard, and with a warning light. i wired in a fog light to my dads car when i was about 12 this way. if i
could do it then, you can do it now

okey dokes, so the question is as my second stab - you already have a reverse but the clusters you are using have extra ones that you are too lazy coz
you spent all your time posting on here to wire up?
Is it possible to change them into something else, like adiditonl brake lamps using red transparent paint, fit reflector to them or paint black so
they are no longer reverse lamps?
To answer your quesiton - I am not sure how a non working reverse lamp is counted.
Since the IVA inspactor can swing it 2 ways:
a) you have reverse lamp and lamp cluster ones don't count so you pass
b) lamps cluster count so they don't work plus you have 3 lamps hence you fail.

I've never had anything to do with IVA of course, not being in your country, but common sense would be that you want to make a good impression,
and that's pretty easy if the lights work like they expect.
For example, I had my VIN assigned by Mr. Policeman (won't go into details) recently, and I decided to keep my work tie, nice shirt etc on for
his visit. He didn't even find a serial number on my transmission, and still gave me the paperwork I needed. So it didn't hurt to be a bit
overdressed for the occasion. Same thing with your lights.
