Wheel woes
I'm trying to get my head around wheel fitment and am having some troubles...
From what I've read I've gathered that for my Indy I need 15" wheels with E38 offset and 108mm PCD, 4 stud (please let me know if
this is right/wrong!)
The bit that is confusing me is choosing the width of the wheels and the tyres to suit.
Can anyone tell me what width is best for an Indy (I'm assuming 6.5" or 7", not sure which tho)
Also, how do I match tyres to the wheels? It seems strange that wheel width is measured in inches and tyre width in mm, how can I tell if a tyre will
fit on a rim? For example, I've seen some wheels for sale that are 15"/6.5" fitted with 195/50/15" tyres. Now 195mm is over
7.5" wide yet it seems to fit ok on 6.5" wheels, is this right?!?!
Any help in clearing my confused head would be very useful!
Cheers,
Pete

Yep, the fitment of the wheels is right. I would say the optimum would be 15x61/2 with 195/50 tyre. If you have mor than 200bhp then go for a 205/50
with 7" wheel.

Thanks for the help, am I right in thinking that the 195 is the tyre width in millimetres? It just seems strange to me that a tyre that is 7.6"
wide fits onto a rim that is only 6.5" wide, surely this would result in half an inch of tyre sticking off either side!?
Cheers,
Pete
Also, should I use the same wheels/tyres all round or different sizes front and back?

I know, it is strange.
For the sake of cost, I would go for the same all round. This means when the backs get a bit worn you can swap them for the fronts

Sounds like a good plan, seeing as I'm splashing out on some OZ superturismos with Avon ZZ3s so I want them to last as long as possible!

Have a look at "The wheel and tyre bible" on this page's menu:
clicky
Really informative about tyres and how they're measured and speed-rated.

The only thing is - the Peugeot is a different offset from Ford by approx 20mm. The pug one's sit into the body more as on Bob's
rear's. The Ford one's will seemingly stand out more, so giving the appearence of a wider car and maybe slightly different handling
characteristics.

Thanks for pointing that out Hellfire, I assume if I bought some with Ford fitment they would fit on my Indy OK?

Pug 205 = ET18, RWD Escort = ET19, Sierra = ET38 so the pug wheels would stick out more. I would go for ET38 lik MK recommend.
