Advice On Painting Galvanised Steel

I have had my bulkhead galvanised and also bought some galvanised cappings and would like to know the correct process for painting them.

Any advice will be welcome

Thanks in advance

Before painting galvanised Land-Rover chassis and bulkheads, we have always used a good quality etch primer. This really sticks to the Zinc and allows most paints to be used over it.

Yep etch prime or wait a while (~year??) for it to go dull...

Any I've seen painted in our works HGV workshop is first washed with a mordant(or is it mordent) solution which turns the surface black. Then painted.

This stuff

If it looks wrong it probably is wrong.

I think someone mentioned it, if you leave them out for a few months (don't know whether this is practicable for you), then when it goes dull prep and paint it as you would any other bare metal, and it sticks fine - it's just the fresh finish that doesn't like paint sticking to it.
