Sealant for Floor
I've cut my floor ready to put in.
What sealant can I use, I want somehting I can get from B&Q as I want to get it done tonight!
I'm sure I read about normal silicon sealants corroding aluminium?

I've never seen silcone sealant do anything to aluminium, though I'd prefer to use a proper brush on seam sealant

tiger seal, sika flex etc. when i last went to look for sikaflex in B&Q, they only had sikabond? seems to be the same stuff though as far as i can
tell. you won't want silicone on it anyway if you intend on painting anything.
sikaflex and the like are polyurethane

This brush on sealant is what I have been using on the beetle to seal up the welds. Looks factory and is cellulose based so can be painted over in a
couple of hours as normal. goes like pencil erasor hardness so can be used in wheel wells and underfloor. I've had some reactions from
smoothrite so I'd not recommend it over that kind of paint. I think once it dries you could paint it with anything.

I would not use bathroom type sealant. No real bonding, and painting problems.
Sikaflex, or worst case Brush on seam sealer from your local motor factors.
I used seam sealer.
Dont use any of the silocone bath goos.
Buy in haste repent at leisure, my old gran used to say.
I say do it right, and right 1st time. (LCB'ers say measure 10 times cut once)

My floor isn't sealed which is probably just as well as I've been caught out in a couple of very heavy down pours when Geoff's car
had an inch of water in it and all his camping gear/clothes were floating . The water just drained out of mine!

Well placed drain holes will left rain water out but not in when driving, you can even put a deflector over the hole to prevent spray entering.

I've used this one too on the bug, to smooth it you can use another brush that is dipped in cellulose thinners. Put on a thick coat (shrinks but
doesn't crack as it drys) then wipe the thinner brush over it lightly either side of the stripe. Easy.

Silicone is useless, and comes away with time.
The only half decent sealer/adhesive is Polyurethane, commonly called PU.
Anything better is going to cost and be a lot more labour intensive to use. A good epoxy is the choice of the top end.
