Is it legal? (more pics!)

Hi there,

As a continuation from the thread 'is it legal?' that I posted yesterday I have uploaded some more pictures of my car that has been booked in for the SVA test in 2 weeks time.

I am currently in the process of studying the SVA manual so I have a reasonable idea of what needs doing but if you can spot anything that I have missed, it would be really helpful if you could let me know.

After yesterday's discussion, I have decided to:

- remove the rear panel and speakers and replace it with a new panel that doesnt have any sharp edges and no speakers.

- take the cd player out and put in a blanking plate for the test

- replace all fuel pipes with the proper stuff

I have checked in the manual and the indicators arn't too low or too far in - they are less than 400mm in from the outside of the car. The side repeaters arnt too low either (both above 350mm from ground level). There was a concern over the mirror height, looked in the manual and couldn't see a required height for them - vision isnt restricted at that height.

If you can spot any possible issues please let me know.

Many thanks,

Matt Rescued attachment Front Side.JPG

I Think it's been mentioned before, but your bonnet catches won't pass. Also, you may want to turn the exhaust clamps round a bit more, so the nuts are concealed. You need to ensure that you can see over you rear arches in the mirrors, why seated in the car.

Are you sure the front indicators are not too narrow (remember the rear of the car is probably wider than the front, and it is 400mm from the outside of the car at its widest)

At a quick glance:
Exhaust clamp
Bonnet catches
Mirrors possibly too low?

Are those bonnet catches SVA proof? i thought you had to have the rubber ones?

regarding the car stereo - will you even be able to hear it when when driving along?

Your Harness mounts are way too low, that won't pass, you need to ensure that the mounts are about the same height as the cut outs in the seats. Do you have runners on the seats, you may need to take them out from the SVA

You may want to cover the spring adjusting ring on the front suspension too.

....and the seat belt ends will need the edges covered.
The routing of the belts may be an issue, too. (The seat is preventing a straight run from shoulder to mounting)

coilover adjuster, top balljoint, bonnet latch radius.
live terminal on batt not covered, exhaust clamp and possibly hole in bodywork radius too

edit: also a few uncovered nuts / bolts on suspension

As said, seat belt mounts are Waaay too low. They need to be at least the height of the holes in your seats to prevent them pulling the seat down in the unfortunate event of an accident.

Where does the SVA examinar check the seat belt height? If its the cut outs in the seat, then its fine, if its the brackets on the rear bulkhead, you might have an issue with it being too low.

The catches look as if the present failable edges.
And, seeing the last few pics, there's a lot of bits in the front suspension will need covering/radiusing - such as the adjusting nuts on the spring/dampers and the brake pipe bracket.
Battery - 'live' must be covered. And I would suggest a more secure method of holding it down than a couple of M6 screws.
If (perish the thought) the car stops at 20-30 G that battery will carry on going....
Wiring is likely to at least attract comments if not better secured/wrapped.

Manual doesn't give mirror heights but does give a plan of lines that must be visible to the driver.
