Painting Aluminium

Do you have to use a acid etch primer everytime or can i get away with keying the surface.

You really have to use an etch primer, if you dont the paint apear to stick but over time will just fall off

I'd certainly use acid etch. I've used paint-on "special metal primer" in the past which is better than nothing but realistically it's a no-brainer. Acid-etch (Upol ? number 8) for me each time.
