Can be done but I don't thinks it a straight forward conversion, think David AKA Flak Monkey is doing this as we speak. Maybe worth a u2u or searching his username.

Cheers

Rich

If your push in shafts are ~28mm dia where they fit in the diff then you can sort it easily.

Cut the casing of the push in joint apart and it will spring apart with some persuasion. Remove the circlip from the end of the shaft and pull off the old joint.

Remove the outer circlip from the diff end of the bolt on shaft and slide off the joint.

Press bolt in joint onto end of push on shaft and fit circlip.

Job done

David

PS remember to change the CV boot while you are at it

The push in joint is swaged together and you cant remove it without cutting it apart.

The metal can part (the largest dia part) is the bit you need to cut apart. Cut it length ways and peel it off. It might spring apart anyway once its cut.

You don't need to replace it. The whole point is that you are changing the push-in joint on the inner end of the shaft for a bolt-on one so that you can connect it to your LSD.

Note what Flak said, this only works if your PUSH-IN shafts are approx 27-28mm dia, not the thinner ones which are approx 24mm.

However, I think from your first post that you don't actually have a pair of bolt-on shafts yet? Flak's info is about how to get an LSD to work with drum brakes. Your other option is to replace your rear end with disc brakes/hubs, then you can just use a pair of bolt-on shafts without any mods.

Ah, I thought you were trying to use rear drums.

If you have rear discs, then you need bolt on both ends.

As long as they are std sierra length, then you can just get a set of bolt ons for about £20.

You cannot use push in shafts with a bolt on diff and discs.

westfield use both sierra and freelander diff's

I though that most westfields with sierra diff's used the 'bolt-on' CV joints at both ends - but I could easily be wrong

so before this all gets too confusing - mr T could you go and take some photo's of whats on your car at the moment

that way we'll all be able to give you better advice

btw - the CV's on 'bolt-on' shafts (aka: Lobro's) go together like this:

if you can do as flak monkey suggests and make your own hybrid shaft, you'll need a pair of bolt on CV's + gators
westfield sell them for £54 each
but a good motorfactor will get them for half that or less (but may need exchange ones)

these are the best pics I can find at the moment.....
this lot + the CV's & gators is all the bits for shafts with 'bolt-on' ends

and they look like this once they are assembled ('bolt-on' both ends and after 101k on a granada)

I've still got the shafts going spare and 2 of the CV's in this pic and I found a set of push-in shafts the other day
