mirrors
seen these on the caterham shop

i don't think these are good for IVA, but does anyone else know better? i can't find any other styles of mirror on their site, so
i'd be surprised if they weren't ok

hard to tell as it is facing down but i wouldn't have thought the radius of the plastic casing around the mirror would not be big enough?

could always stick a bit of edging round trhat, but i was thinking about the size of the glass (i can't make any sense of the rules in the
manual...) i need a mirror with that exact same mounting you see, but i thought the glass on that type of mirror was too small?

ah, yeah, now they're the ones i was looking at before on merlin motorsport, but was told they wouldn't pass.

They are referring to the reflective area. If you look at Fig 1 they show a rectangle of 40mm x 70mm within an odd shaped mirror.
I'd say if you can get a flat piece of card 40mm x 70mm onto the mirror surface without fouling any edges then it'd pass.
Edit to say: I think they meant perpendicular not parallel in any case.

see, i didn't think they meant parallel, but i looked at the old SVA manual to see what that said, and it was the same!
anyway, so whatever shape the mirror is, it has to be able to fit a 40mm high x 70mm wide rectangle on the glass, so there shouldn't be a
problem with SPA mirrors? except maybe projections and edges?
just noticed, SPA do a few different sizes, all should be fine, the ones above are the smallest, i could maybe go for one of the bigger ones as long
as they don't stick out too far

I doubt those mirrors would meet the criteria of being able to rotate inwards with a force of 10kg

ah, i see, looks like the stem goes right through the mirror and i i mould assume it can turn on it. there seems to be a screw head on the top, maybe
for loosening?
also the base of the stem has a ball joint type swivel mounting

The way I read the IVA same as the SVA is that the mirror and stem must be capable of "swinging" into the body of the car if struck by a
force, If there is no swivel at the base how do they achieve it?

there is a swivel at the base, and i think in the body of the mirror also. and with that, it should swing into the window opening of my car, behind
the A pillar.

nah, i've got one of their old right hand chassis which can't race now, so its a road one i'm going for.
the mirrors are slightly higher than the back, and i think the back of the cab is very slightly narrower than the front of the cab. i've mocked
it up with an old interior mirrorwhich is the same size and there's a decent view, so should be fine
