Hello,
Everyone seen Ultralite yet www.wcmultralite.com
The way the noscone and bonnet are together and swing open i like very much, and go and try too build my Mazda mx5 based locost that way .

its a good choice, youll have to modify the chassis design but if you were using a sierra then youd have to anyway. nice little engine, get the 1.8 if
you can, rear wheel drive, you could use the front stub axles, etc

Hello,
Why a MX5!!!
I can juse everything of it from seats, loom, engine gearbox, rearsuspension box with irs setup wil just bold on after a few chassis chances.
So it's the perfect donor when you get a wrecked like i have.
I'am at the roling chassis stage and going on with the bodywork now, it's going too be complete alu. with a calculated 1 weld in cross fot
the nosecone and bonnet.

Forgot to say i got a 1.8 engine with a 6 speed gearbox.
Tuned with a turbo i now get 257 HP....!!!!
Dyno tested.....
And that in a car with a weight of 570 now so 600 kg with bodywork ...

Not to put you off from building a locost, but you may as well just build a spaceframe for your Miata (as the MX-5 is known here in the states) and
ditch the heavies like bumper supports, spare tire, carpeting, convertable top, and such rather than building a ground-up Locost...
If you ever want more power, the Rotaries aren't that hard to swap in.
Imagine 1500lbs and 500hp on pump gas!

The MX-5 is an EXCELLENT donor for the Locost breed. You are right on track. I hear that there are some problems adapting the rear suspension, but
nothing that can't be worked out. A sweet engine, good steering rack, and a 6 speed to boot?! I am envious. 
And the Ultralight is a very nice piece of kit, but as usual priced out of my ballpark. Your solution sounds just as nice.
