New Kit Car Headlamp Concepts
Hello
Following on from a previous post (See Below) some styling concepts have been developed to show some design intentions for a new Kit Car Headlamp.
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=124523
The lamp is intended as a generic unit which can be used on any car build where headlamps are not incorporated.
Please comment with your opinions of the designs. All comments and criticisms are welcome, both positive and negative. If there are elements of
different concepts you would like to see combined this also is helpful to know.
This is an image of all the concepts and the link below is a gallery with plenty more images.

Thank you for viewing this post and I look forward to reading all feedback.
Regards

How about putting side repeater in the side of the lamp housing.
Would make good alternative to putting them in front cycle wings.

I do like some of your designs but do wonder how likely it is that they'll ever reach the marketplace? The problem that I see is not the shape
or design of the housings but the actual lenses themselves.
The smallest lense available for a road legal car that is properly 'E' marked, which incorporates side, dipped and main beam is
5.75", so surely this would compromise some of your designs. There are some 90mm diameter bi-halogen lenses available but these only incorporate
dip and main beam, which means you need another pair for sidelights.
Do you intend manufacturing the lenses for your designs or are you hoping to use what's already available on the market?
BTW, my current favourite is F because it looks like a headlight that could potentially be incorporated into the nosecone of a seven.

B already exists pretty much, or very similar to the hella lights on the SDR v-storm.
I know because I'm looking at buying some
I like f too, but I can't figure out how to mount them to the best in a 7...

"The smallest lense available for a road legal car that is properly 'E' marked, which incorporates side, dipped and main beam is
5.75"
We've had this discussion b4, I would disagree with the above statement as the Dominator headlamps I sell are "E" marked & I passed
SVA with them in Jan '09 - proof below & they have dip/main & side lights in one unit, the lenses are 90mm
SVA Pass!!!
"A" is probably the most practical to put into production as it is not dissimilar to the lights I sell for the Furore
Where you have incorporated the sidelight is something I have already looked at doing, these projector lights incorporate dip & main within one
unit & the lenses are just 50mm dia
way smaller than the Hella units (& substantially cheaper!). You could use the same "chassis headlamp" in your design with no
modification.
I think some of the other designs are prettier, but unfortuately you run into the problem of finding an existing light which can be used in them as
the complexities of getting anything manufactured & "E" marked from scratch would prove too expensive for the potential marketplace for
such a lamp I would have thought.
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

Russ, are your Dominator headlamps correctly 'E' marked for a car? Can I fit them to a car without any modifications whatsoever and pass
IVA & MOT?
Unless the answer to both the questions above is 'Yes', I maintain that the smallest diameter road legal lense, that is properly
'E' marked for a car and incorporates side, dip and main beam is 5.75"

TTBOMK there is no such thing as "correctly "E" marked for a car" perfectly prepared to be proved wrong on that
..............................
IVA specifically states " a flat beam pattern is acceptable" Dominator headlamps are "E" marked & have a flat beam pattern
- if an Mot tester fails them he is wrong (according to my SVA tester almost exactly a year ago)- that is outside my control, unfortunately not all
SVA/IVA & MoT testers test to the same standards despite the best advice of VOSA
Ignoring all of the above I can supply a 50mm projector headlamp which there are absolutely NO queries on IVA regarding beam pattern
"e" marking etc. (TTBOMK) I would have thought anyone capable of building a car just might have the capability of adding a sidelight
without it stressing them out tooooooooooooo much............................. However for anyone that finds it too stressful I have LED indicator
units with built in sidelamps - these are also "E" marked with no sharp edges - which should solve the problem.

I guess you would end up with something that looked a bit like some of these, with it (almost) built into the nose cone :

Personally, I like C and D. Would be good to have a modern option to the standard offerings.

Additional Concept
Hi
Thanks for all the feedback. It is all very much appreciated. I have added an additional concept to the mix so any more opinions on this will be
very helpful.
The new one is the one in the middle. This concept covers all functions including Led DI/DRL and Bi-Halogen projector. It would however work out to
be the most expensive.
More images can be seen at:

Please let me know what you think of this or any of the other concepts.
Thanks, Mike
