ALI SHEET
Hi, looking for ali sheet to make some panels im in poole dorset best prices so far are £46 for 5251 and £40 for 1050 from different suppliers. so is
5251 better or do i go for the cheapest?
also does anyone know of a cheaper supplier near me pls

ps this is for 1.2mm is this a good thickness to use for the main sides?

For non structural side panels... I would be looking at .6mm lighter and cheaper

i prefere 5083 which is marine grade....
6082 is good for polishing but doesnt cold form without fracturing but 5083 does....
just because you are a character, doesnt mean you have character....
for all your bespoke parts, ali welding, waterjet, laser, folding, turning, milling, composite work, spraying, anodising and cad drawing....

i wouldn't use 0.6mm, ever time a fly farts in the general direction you'll get a dent.
I've got 1.2mm 1050, plastic covered on one side for 25 quid, ex vat about 3 months ago.
I will struggle a little doing the rear panel (according to peeps on here).

i used 1mm on my rear pannel with no problems so 1.2 would be ok....
just because you are a character, doesnt mean you have character....

 UH OH
I've just ordered some 2mm to replace my original sides (due to engine change etc) couldn't remember what the original was and thought
it'd do. Is it going to be too thick to bend??

Bugger it! I just read this post and rang to change the order and they have already cut it into lengths. So i'll have to have it now

Maybe, but you'll have better side-impact protection

hehe yeah maybe
will it be possible to bend? I know a guy with an industrial bender (steady). Will it break or bend?

Get them to bend it for you?
I got the place I bought my side panels to put a |_| on one length and an |_ on the other so it should clip over nicely

if you struggle to bend it yourself try annealing it first. (search on here / the web its been covered lots - involves blow torch and soap).

Even if it doesn´t bend pretty, the extra thickness on the bend will allow you to file-sand-polish to a nice smooth finish.

PS: On the rear bends I mean....
Beware of what you wish.. for it may come true....

2mm sheet will require a greater radius than 1mm whatever the grade. I think you would be better off selling what you have bought and ordering again.
2mm would make a useful floor for somebody else.

i have just used 2mm on my rear panel and its fine. infact 100% better than when i did it first time in 1997
