thinners for Halfords paint
I have a 100ml bottle of paint from halfords that I've used to touch up stone chips. It is a good colour match, so I'm happy to spray an
area with it.
Today, some knob in a rusty corsa reversed into my car scratching the front bumper skirt and leaving a big red smear on his rear bumper. The damage
isn't bad but it won't simply polish out.
Rather than having the car go to a body shop and have all the hassle of taking it in and stuff, I'll spray it myself and get the knob to pay for
the paint. There are crazing marks in the paint on the bumper and I was thinking of doing it some time in the future anyway.
What thinner do you use for Halfords paint? (I believe it is a 1k acrylic) Will Cellulose thinners do the trick? I have loads of these, including
some nice top gloss.

if its touch up paint you pick up off the shelves, then i don't know.
if its one they mixed up for you on the parts counter, then its cellulose paint.
i went in and asked if it was water base, the guy said yes, and it really wasn't went back in, and another guy said its def cellulose and
gave me some free thinners for the inconvenience

Its one they mixed to order. I didn't think they were allowed to sell Cellulose for car refinishing anymore. The stuff they sell in aerosols
is Acrylic or so it says on the tin. Doesn't mean their mixed to order stuff is though.

i didn't think so either, but when i bought some middle of last year, it was cellulose, and cellulose thinners did the job
not sure if there's some loophole that means they can still sell cellulose. something to do with not selling to proffesional body shops or
something maybe? you can still buy cellulose on ebay too

If the mixed colour comes in a tin, not aerosol, then it's cellulose from Halfords.

if hes left paint on top of your paint it will come off but you will need some good cutting compound, or use some 1500 grit paper (wet)
to get rid of the paint and then polish.

Hi, actually its not cellulose as such but infact its nitro synthetic which is cellulose based
if your gonna spray it you could get away with a bit of cellulose thinner but the proper stuff to use would be nitro synthetic
the trouble is that half the people mixing the stuff dont know what it is so will tell you it cellulose when it isnt
youshould be able to get the correct thinners from halfords if they know what theyre talking about otherwise your local paint suppliers should be able
to help
