JT, I would hazard a guess that as each post above has been edited, the first post doesn't read as it originally did ....

I don't care about registered traders touting for business (they pay for that privilege after all) but traders saying 'YOU MAY HAVE THE
WRONG INSURANCE, PHONE GARY ON XXXXXXXXX TO GET THE RIGHT INSURANCE' (capital SHOUTY letters intentional btw) isn't what this forum is all
about is it???

My issue stands - the comments relating to ''Invalidate your insurance'' and ''double your premium''
are simply not correct.

I guess it depends if you find your insurance is invalid. Bet it would be pretty shouty then.
To be fair to 2gether insurance, they mentioned this to me months ago on the phone, that as mine is 893cc I fall under the premium hike for bike
engines over 900cc. Also they ain't named and shamed te companies so are being pretty grown up about it.
Caps lock is a bit much, but not an offence worth complainig over?

Your insurance cannot be made ''invalid'' due to an error by anyone other than yourself.

Wrong. If the insurance company make an error on your certificate and you dont notice it, then your insurance is at risk.

I suspect that by now, most motor vehicle insurers are aware that bike engines are fitted to a lot of kitcars and ask the question "Is it a car
or motorcycle engine"
We've tried most of the specialist insurers and not once has any of them assumed it's a 1200cc car engine. They are specialist insurers
though so maybe there are non specialist insurers who may assume it's a car engine........

I think the problem is that the cert doesn't really give all the detials.. ie it would say 998cc but that might look like a 998cc car engine

I agree, but that's their problem not yours and under those circumstances they cannot legally invalidate your insurance - they may well cancel
it with notice, but invalidating it is a totally different matter.

Back to the olden days then, where taxation etc was based on horsepower
Really it should be irrelivent, an engine is an engine. Just because "bike" engines are better/more efficient/lighter (delete as
approprite to avoid any upset) should not make any diffence, it is a petrol fueled power unit, and in a "specailist" vehicle, is just
another speciality component and should not in itself command any more premium excess than already imposed, (IMHO)

According to the DVLA, once a bike engine is fitted into a car, it is legally a car engine. Therefore subject to car, not bike, emission control
levels.
So it would make an interesting argument with the insurance company if they tried ti say any claim was invalid because you didn't say it was a
abike engine, 'cos it isn't is it?
Tell them about the bent treacle edges!

It can be a car engine, bike engine, jet engine - doesnt matter what sort of engine. If the insurance company assesses it as a high performance engine
and more likely to have an accident then they're going to load it. They dont force you to accept a policy so in accepting the premium then you
accept the loading. Where's the legal comeback in that??
As above though - i wonder about the original post (and also wonder about the editted version stating that your insurance can be invalid if the
insurance company screws up!!)
As far as i'm aware, you have to answer all their questions honestly and so if you state the capacity as thats what is asked, and then they dont
ask the origin then thats their fault. Surely if they invalidate the policy afterwards then thats a breach of contract??

Firstly the Information supplied by us about being aware of bike engine loads is FACTUALLY CORRECT and secondly I edited my own post to correct
spelling.
I have mentioned this for the benefit of the Locost users. Bike Engine loads will spply usally for 900cc + with most underwriters, we are qualified
to speak sbout this given we are a specialist.
We are a trader and are not spamming the forum!
The fasct that we interact with the forum can only be a good for thing for its users. 2gether always offer low cost kit csr premiums with the correct
level of cover, We are just making people aware of market problems.
The same can be said about price comparison sites as a generalisation for stanard cars.
2gether have only had the best intentions with the information and cetainly are not using it to tout for business, our service and prices fulfil that
requirements.

Bike Engine Comments
Agreed CAPS Lock an error but it is an very important piece of information, these mistakes happen in the industry and they may invalidate Insurance
and certainly increase premium however you still could be liable.
A Motor proposal form is not going to say 998 cc BIKE ENGINE it will just give the engine size. We like the other 10 leading speacialists all work
off of similar guides and trust me 99.9 % apply the same loading at the 900 cc breaking point.
The reason that I know we are right in the cases mentioned are beacause the Underwriter are the exact same underwriter that we are placing the same
risk with, I have even spoken to the Head underwriter to clarify this with the Insurer in question.
there is nothing underhanded in my comment just useful and professional advice.
If the forum would prefer not for us to be as active and helpful we shall refrain from notifying , but please keep in mind that we are a specialist
and are providing this information as we look after the users of the sites that we are affiliated to .

insurance companies twigged
when i first got my blade insured a few years back in 2004 i was never asked the question by the young uninformed clerk on the other end of the phone
about wether it was a bike engine & was astounded at how low the premum was, however on renewal the underwriter had twigged that 893cc didnt
necessarily mean it was as slow as a robin reliant & promtly put the premium up, for instance my citroen CI is 1000cc but half the BHP, if you
notice on most phone calls now the insurer states this conversation is being recorded for training purposes & to cover their back in the event of
a claim so there is no dispute over who said what!!!
