Bonding CF to metal
Thought this might be better here - I have Carbon Fibre rams on my TB's, but 3 of the 4 recently decided to part company with the metal mounting
rings (luckily getting stuck in the engine bay!). The question is what to stick them back with? Needs to be something oil/petrol resistant with maybe
a little bit of 'give' to overcome the vibration? It looks like they were stuck on with epoxy before but either it wasn't mixed
properly or hasn't taken....
Cheers,
James

It didn't stick my Carbonmods front wings too well as I found out on the A14 at 70MPH!

that sounds like bad prep to me
my wings were held on with sika 291 and were a propper bitch to remove to fit the bigger ones
Sikaflex does stick everything to everything but only if the PREP is done propperly

Sikaflex is not resistant to petrol. Slowly turns to goo.

Keep going... what might I have done wrong? Genuine question...

I have to disagree - I have used it as a pump / sender gasket with no problems in nearly four years.

well the prep work i did for my wings and stays was to sand the inside of the wing and the metal stay with grade 24 (its just like small rocks) sand
paper and then degreased with acetone and then degreased with acetone and new cloth and then a final degrease with acetone and new cloth, then aply
the sikaflex and strap the arch in place and do not move it for 48 hours
thats it

Plus you need to get the corect sikaflex. And maybe avoid the cheaper options of "similar" products.
Must say though that proper sikaflex is proper expensive (at least compared to tigerseal etc)

I used a brand new tube of Sikaflex , cleaned and degreased the wings and stays several times , left them for 48hrs as above and the wing still came
off. My old GRP wings were still on after 5 years stuck with the same type of Sikaflex and yes it was genuine Sikaflex

I'll give epoxy a go - any suggestions what I should clean them up with?
