aircraft radio thingys
When i was younger my grandad had one of those radio things that you could listen to the pilots talking to the air traffic control. What are they
called?
Googled it but didnt get very far! Only thing close was some sort of walky talky at £180!
Would love to have a go with one but dont really want to spend that much.
Anyone know where i can find one cheap?
Thanks locosters

I have to listen to pilots waffle on all day at work about how hard they're worked (yeah right), the good old days etc I could go on.
The last thing I would want is to listen to them in my spare time!! But, each to their own

As a kid I used to get taken to the local airport, then to airshows in the summer.
Must of had a lasting impact on me.
Had a go in the air cadets when I was 13, stayed till I was 16. Various jobs in between and now I crew a helicopter.
As soon as they are old enough, take them to the local cadet hut. Nothing better for youngsters to be involved with.
Out of the lads I was in cadets with, one flies Pumas the other Chinook.

Other ones all ready listed?
If you mean the 2 on the right hand side the AR-108 is VHF which is ok if you want to listen to private flights i.e(fenland, Holbeach st johns) or
commercial flight i.e(heathrow)
As far as the MVT-3300 goes, pass it looks far to compicated to work as far as im concerned.
I done my private pilots licence about 3 years ago now and in order to get a head start for my radio telepaphy exam i bought the ar-108 which was
perfect for what i wanted it for, never really looked in to a scanner for millatary so not 100% sure what to go for in all fairness.
I will put a little post on my pilot forum site if you want and see what they sugest.
