Rivnuts

Not quite at body work stage yet, but wondered if it would do the same job to bolt all the way through a rail (perhaps with a smaller dia. bolt) as aposed to rivnutting? I assume its a question of minimising the amount that you reduce the strength of the various chassis rails through drilling hols?

I'm certain that the body panels will be coming off a lot so a removable solution will definitly be needed!!!

I suppose then its a case of approprate spacing between the holes as well?

Cheers

Matt

Rivnuts provide a blind screw fitting. A bolt though a tube is a bad idea as a bolt will try and crush the tube..

A hole in a tube will weaken it but remember it has 4 sides, I have used a lot of M4 rivnuts for Ali panels, and a few M6 for GRP (i.e. two for the noise cone, 6 for the scuttle..

If you were worried welding tabs on with a through hole would be best, but most chassis locost chassis are over-engineered so a few holes will be fine (so long as you are sensible).
