Headlight and Indicator Question (pic included)
First question
1. Are front turn signal indicators that are stick on IVA ok? Only reason is I dont want them where they will be for IVA and really dont want to drill
holes in the bodywork for no reason
2nd one is dipped beam minimum height is stated as 500mm, is this 500mm from the ground to the bottom of the light, or any part of the light must be
over 500mm. (I do presume from the ground and not from the bottom of the chassis)
As you can see below about 1cm of the lights is below 500mm but plenty is above.

Easy answer for the 2nd question if it all needs tobe over 500mm is to jack up the suspension for the test assuming you have adjustable coilovers.
Edit - this may help

By looks of that, its from lowest point of the light....up on to stilts she will be for the test then
Yea I have adjustable coilovers. i'll put her back up to this height as they will be fine then and over 500mm minimum

Item one is a bit vague:
"5. All
obligatory and optional lamps and reflectors must be securely
fitted to the vehicle"
With a note:
"Lamp security - Lamps must be securely mounted to the vehicle,
double-sided tape as a method of attachment is to be considered
acceptable only in situations where it is the manufacturer's intended
method"
So dunno about that one. Does that mean that any light which comes with sticky backing is ok to stick on? You could use silicone which will peel off
of GRP pretty easily when you want to remove it, but looks more permanent.
The second one is pretty clear, section 20 of the manual:
"Lamp/reflector vertical position is measured from the ground:
In the case of the minimum height to the lower edge of the illuminated
area (reflective surface on a reflector).
In the case of a Dipped Beam headlamp the
minimum height will be measured to the apparent trace of the beam
cut-off on the lens. If this point cannot be determined then you will take the lower edge of the
illuminated area.
In the case of the maximum
height to the top edge of the illuminated
area (reflective surface on a reflector)."
So yeah, you need to jack it up a tad by the looks.

On point one then I guess the opposite is also true i.e. If the indicator has srew holes then this is the manufacturers preferred mounting method and
therefore sticking it on is prohibilted, you may need to find some indicators without screw holes.
This maybe playing devils advocate but if you get a jobs worth at the test...............

Thanks both for the reply, so headlights are sorted in terms of requirements now.
The indicators - They don't have screw holes so that parts not a problem.
I just checked and they aren't E marked, although that in itself isn't a problem it of course, it would of made things a little easier
again if I have to convince the tester.
I may fit them but take some additional ones on the day and if I have drill a much bigger hole to pass then so be it, ill have them all crimped up to
swap.
**edit**
how far in front of the lights do they stand to check visibility angles?

The other option if your indicators have screw holes is to cut off the screw head and stick it in the hole, then use tape to attach the indicator to
body

Dunno, he just took a look at mine and decided it was ok. I guess it depends on the tester - mine obviously was satisfied without breaking out the
measuring gear. They did measure the distance from the edge and floor though.
