Vented / Flaired Side Panels

I need to make some holes in my side panels to get the heat out now that the car is turbo'd

big_wasa has bonded the panels on with 300 tubes of sikaflex so there is no way they are coming off LOL

If I simply cut a 1 inch wide hole the height of the side panel right at the back to allow air out (where the flare would be) will that be as efficient as having flared side panels? The other option is to cut huge holes in the side, fold some ally and then put another panel over the top but that will then need painting etc.

I welcome your thoughts

My car has your second option. Big holes with additional panels pop riveted on. Just gloss black vinal them.

why are you doing it are you seeing high temps at all?

i had hot oil temps, instead of vented side panels i house the coolers external to the car on the side panels with housing around them, they look good and dropped my oil temp 20-30 degree's so much that i now need a thermostatic oil housing

It's not the oil - it's my water temps - I've loads of holes in the front for air to come in but nowhere for it to go (I have a full flat floor including the transmission)

Try the slots. If it doesn't work expand it to flared sides.

You also need to duct the nose so all air goes through the rads.

i would want to know that oil temp might be worth getting a gauge sorted for that

my car ran hot but i didnt want to vent the side panels, i run a turbo cooler one one side that reduces water temp before it goes back into the rad after the turbo, the other side is an oil cooler

ill post some pics so you can see was easy enough to do

I know I know, I need a new full set of ancillary gauges (it's on the list).

I went out for another jaunt last night and tempts didn't exceed 90 deg so they're better than the previous night - the heat is of course all on the turbo-side but the heat just has nowhere to escape to.
