I've got one westfield door here, seems to be roughly a 1" x 1/4" welded frame inside the vinyl.

Probably not much help but you never know.

Give a man a fish & it will feed him for a day, give him a fishing rod & you've saved a fish.

Just had a quick look in the garage, the frame seems more like 3/4" x 1/8".

It seems that the vinyl is then sewn over the framework.

Did you get any further on the hardtop that you were making ?

Finished the hardtop, looked great but could not stand the noise inside the cab. Cannot believe how loud it was. Ended up throwing it in the skip.

Would be interested to know how you sew over an 1/8" thick piece of steel strip as I want to make doors as well.

I picked up the westfield door for £5 purely to see how it's made, i plan to make 2 when my cars finished but yes, ive no idea how they sew it. I reckon it will probably be easier to fit my screen in a position that i can use the standard westfield doors if i have the length from rear arch to screen.

Picture stolen from another locost builder.
The frame runs completely around the edge, one bar across the middle below the window section, the whole thing then has vinyl sewn each side of the framework.

The newer Westfield doors will fit the best. I put some of these on my MK. Caterham doors are way too short - been thre tried them.

The Westfield door in the picture above is the older design - the newer design have a curved rear edge.

I made mine out of sheets of polycarbonate riveted to aluminium bar for a bit more strength. I had some vinyl / steel ones but they didn't look great and were way too heavy.

Making doors....

If you look in my photo archive , you can see the doors I made for my MK ......I made these from fibre glass , with polycarbonate for the tops. I made a mould from 5mm ply/ filler etc then moulded the glass fibre onto that.
