Buying Aluminium
Hello,
Can anybody recommend a supplier for aluminium sheets somewhere near coventry?
Phoned a couple of places but got quoted an astronomical figure. (I presume they don't stock it and where lumping the delivery charge onto the
price.)
I'm asking for 3 sheets of 1.2mm half hard, is that correct?
Cheers
David

What have you been quoted?
I paid £35 from a local fabrication company for a 4'x8' sheet of 1.5mm half hard ally. They were good enough to guilotene it down to size
for me as well.

3 sheets, does that include some for me ? I know we've talked abuot this but 3 suddenly sounds a lot without thinking about it.
(i guess you phoned George H Cook, Alchemy Steel Services and Mattersons)

I am on my 4th sheet and looking how to get my boot interior out of it without running out
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Hello,
Mathersons look to be the cheapest, I tried 3 random places under steel steel stockists a week or so ago, and they wanted 45-60 a sheet, which I
thought was higher than avg to extortion.
Mathersons want 37 a sheet which is fair methinks.
Dave:
Ive just moved back to Leamington now, everything went well in the original house, but after 8 months more or less all of us had a reason to move out
on our own again, still all friends though. Then my new landlord got nervous at the house prices and sold up, so i've ended up back in
leamington.
The downside of all the moving is that its put my build back a few months.

Which one?
The place I got my last lot from has new staff and they are not as people friendly as the old ones. I asked for half hard and the new man says he
doesn't understand as he only has grades. 1050 H14 (previously SIC-H4)
5251 H22 (previously NS4 H3). I think it is the 5251 H22 but thought I'd ask in case anyone knows different.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I bought 5251-H22 from Aalco in Glasgow for £26 per 8x4 sheet (1.2mm thick with plastic coating on one side - 3 sheets)
They have locations throughout the UK. There is one in Nottingham and one in Birmingham at:
Aalco Birmingham
Shelah Road
Halesowen
West Midlands
B63 3PH
Tel: 0121 585 3600
Fax: 0121 585 6864
Email: birmingham@aalco.co.uk
Opening Hours (Mon-Fri):
Office: 08.30-17.30
Collections: 10.30-late
(minimum notice: 1 hour)
Don't get sheet any thicker than 1.2mm or you will have real trouble bending it. I'd say 1.2mm is optimum in terms of a balance between
resistance to damage and ability to bend to shape.
Aalco also delivered the sheets to me on a nicely packed pallet for just £12. A bargain in my opinion!
Hope this helps,
Craig.

I used 16g half hard last time and got on o.k. with it. The 18g they have in now looks a good alternative it was just the grade thing that's
changed. It looks like the 5251-H22 is what I want, thanks.

I'm also intereseted in buying some ally, so I just gave Aalco in Slough a ring..
They quoted me £62 for 2000x1000x1.2mm 5251 (NS4)
Does this seem a little expensive ???

Seems a bit pricey to me.
Parkers Steel want £25-30 per sheet.

Thanks James,
Parkers Steel just quoted £46 inc delivery.
Basically half the price of Aalco !!

That surprises me as I found Aalco in Cambuslang(Glasgow) the cheapest by far in my area. I only paid something like £24 or 26 per 2500 x 1250 x 1.2mm
sheet of 5251-H22 with Vinyl coating although I was buying three sheets at the time which may be relevant.
Delivery was about £12 IIRC.
Cheers,
Craig.
